About

Venus Probe Productions was born out of desperation. Two guys working a sort line in a dusty Vancouver warehouse discovered, quite accidentally, that they shared an interest in horror films. The warehouse job was an excuse to pay the bills and keep the lights on. For both workers, the idea of making films independently and striving to preserve their visions on film was an escape from their blue-collar obligations.

The story began in 1999 ; it continues to the present day. And Venus Probe Productions still strives to squeeze as much creativity as possible from the limited resources at hand; it is based on guerilla film making in its purest form. Lacking the budgets or the crews of larger film companies, Venus Probe has pushed forward with a crude but meaningful vision of the world around us, and within us.

The mission of Venus Probe Productions continues to be a pledge to never give up the drive or the determination necessary to make films, whether they be long or short, drama or documentary.

Every production completed, no matter how small or great, is another step forward for the members of Venus Probe in terms of experience and knowledge. We honour the spirit of such independent film makers as George Romero and Tobe Hooper, who made their mark on the film community through independent means. Their work set the example that inspires us, just as their work continues to inspire generations of other film makers.

“Unlike all the other art forms, film is able to seize and render the passage of time, to stop it, almost to possess it in infinity. I’d say that film is the sculpting of time.”

Andrei Tarkovsky
